The Secrets to Nisswa’s Repeat Popularity

Looking for small town charm in the Great White North? Look no further than Nisswa, Minnesota. This bustling town is replete with cute boutiques, great gathering spots, and lake access as far as the eye can see. Discover why Twin City visitors consider it a classic and vote it “most likely to appear in a magazine.”

Lakes, lakes, and more lakes

Across from Main Street is the Nisswa Lake Park, where you can launch your craft and immediately access a network of lakes stretching down to Brainerd and back. Whether you’re pontooning with friends or whiling away the daylight fishing, everything you need can be reached from the water. Tacos and live music at Zorbaz on Gull Lake. Gas and bait at Madden’s Marina. Winter doesn’t stop the fun, with lake access leading to ice fishing hot spots and the annual Brainerd Jaycees Ice Fishing Extravaganza at Hole in the Day Bay.

Downtown events year-round

While the end of the summer tourist season sees a lull in traffic, the residents of Nisswa keep things busy with year-round event planning. Their Fall Festival features award-winning barbecue presented by teams from all over the state, duking it out in a contest of smoked ribs and smokier sauce. Meanwhile, thousands flock north for their annual City of Lights Festival, when the whole town is decked in holiday lights, and a phenomenal fireworks display closes out the night. Sure, seasonal visitors are aware of Freedom Day and Crazy Days. This “vibrant, family-friendly event scene” is best tapped by long-term residents.

Wonderful restaurants

Eating in? Stop at the family-owned Schaefer’s Foods to pick up groceries. Eating out? Nisswa is your oyster (or ale house, to be more specific). Top, top favorites with the locals include Main Street Ale House for a mouth-watering, fresh menu. Then Ganley’s Restaurant–an intergenerational Americana diner. And finally, Sunshine’s Summerhouse, with its craft kitchen and elevated cocktails. Whatever time of night or day, there’s a waffle spot or basket of bar fries for you to haunt.

Different strokes

For some, Nisswa, Minnesota, is best enjoyed during the summer tourist season. But for others, it’s got all the buzz, boutiques, and coffee shops that they crave from the Cities. When seeking rental properties to invest in, consider Nisswa a hub for those looking to relocate long-term from more urban areas.
